What will a Girl Learn from Rainbow?
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls emphasizes:
- Leadership Development
- Poise and Self Confidence
- Ethics and Good Citizenship
- Team Building
- Community Service
As a member, a girl will learn how to apply each of these values to real-life situations. Rainbow teaches that every member can make a difference and become a better person.
What Activities does Rainbow Offer its Members?
Each local group, called an Assembly, meets twice a month. During the meetings, members plan and discuss projects and activities. Meetings are conducted by the presiding officer according to standard protocol and parliamentary procedure. Any member willing to accept the responsibility, may serve as an officer. All major decisions are made by the girls.
The members learn to memorize ceremonial lectures and are encouraged to speak in front of their peers. Adults are present to serve in an advisory role.
Outside of the meetings, girls have the opportunity to become involved in other events such as:
- Charity and Service -- members learn that true sservice comes from helping others. Assemblies raise money or volunteer with local charities like Make-A-Wish Foundation, Shrine Burn Centers, and Special Olympics.
- Fundraisers -- participation teaches the importance of budget management and supports the Charity Projects.
- Scholarship Opportunities -- through fraternal organizations, a variety of college/technical school scholarships become available to members.
- Social Activities -- provides an opportunity for team building, cooperation, and increased awareness of diversity among friends. Participation is encouraged in activities such as camping trips, sleep overs, dances and picnics.
- Travel-day or overnight trips may be made to other assemblies. Grand Assembly (the state conference) and Supreme Assembly (the international conference), as well as other places of interest.
